Stay the course

The journey to Memorial Sloan-Kettering was worth it. It was a journey, for sure. It took a long time to drive up, and a long time waiting to see the doctor, but when she finally opened the door the exam room and apologized for making us wait so long, it was all worth it. She was great. She confirmed the treatment regimen that I’m on, gave me some more information about the drugs and about new drugs in the pipeline, and gave me some questions to bring back to Glick. She was very caring. She said she had every reason to believe that the CT scan in June will show that the chemo is working, just by her clinical exam. It was encouraging.

Then we climbed back into the car for the long trip home. We got back around 4:30. and then I went to a support group meeting at the Wellness Community at 6. I read that people who go to support groups live longer, so hey, why not! It was really nice. The other women in the group are all very warm, and it’s a good place to talk openly about living with cancer.

One of the repercussions of the day yesterday is that I had to take some medicine for pain, and today I have the Percocet hangover. I know it will pass, though. I know I’ll feel better tomorrow. I took it really easy today. In fact, I didn’t even take Tylenol today.

So, on we go, second opinion in hand. “Stay the course,” she said. I will.

I'm glad you had such a wonderful experience at Sloan Kettering. Someone I work with recently went there and had similar feedback. Knowledge is power and power combined with all of your overwhelming support is clearly on your side!
