Are you sure that's chemo?

Sometimes I wonder if the stuff in the IV is actually a toxic, poisonous chemotherapy and not just, say, saline. Because I have to tell you: I don't feel bad at all. This was the easiest round so far. Maybe it's because I'm feeling better in general, getting stronger, building more energy. Whatever! I'll take it. It's just amazing that it's WORKING.

Yesterday I treated myself to a manicure and pedicure with a gift certificate from last year's birthday (my 37th birthday is Sunday, happy birthday to me). I know there are risks with pedicures and also manicures, especially with lymphedema. But it was a fancy spa, and I made sure that everything was clean. The manicurist said that I have nice cuticles! She may have been angling for a bigger tip, but I've been working on them. I've never had that compliment before. Another positive side effect of cancer, I guess - I had to stop biting my nails for fear of infection. And now they look pretty.

I am so happy that I have a pain-free, tumor-shrinking, manicured and pedicured, energetic birthday weekend coming up. A couple of months ago, I didn't know if that would be the case. I'm reminded of that every day, every moment.
