Yet another setback
I got a call on Friday afternoon that I am still trying to make sense of. Lorelei (Glick's other nurse practitioner) called to tell me that my tumor markers had doubled, and that she, Dr. Glick, Dr. Fox, and Dr. Fox's NP had met to discuss what to do. They decided that it would be best to switch treatment on Tuesday, that based on physical exam, my general state of pain, and the tumor markers, Abraxane and Avastin are not working. Dammit. So their plan is to switch to Gemcitabine and Carboplatin.
I feel very left out of this decision. My plan is to call Dr, Fox (he is covering for Glick this week, who is on vacation. Everybody LOVES Dr. Fox so I'm sort of glad that I'll be seeing him and getting his opinion) on Monday morning and have him go over the factors that influenced this decision. Is it too soon to switch? My pain level has been much better, but that's due to the drugs, I'm sure. I am starting to get worried. I feel like they're stabbing in the dark, and there's a frenzy to do the right thing, and no one knows what the right thing is. It's scary. It's this race against the cancer - can we find the right chemo soon enough?
I need some good news.

Rachel,
Good luck tomorrow with Dr. Fox. Don't think ot this as the race against the cancer but more the continued world of modern medicine that will combine together to fight this. It's great that they're so many options out there. We're all praying that this is the one that will turn everything around for you.
Your message conveyed a feeling of panic; a feeling of things being out of control. Let's hope that Dr. Fox can fill in the blank spaces that come from messages being delivered by second or third parties.
Ask all the questions you need to and let's hope that the answers will bring you a little peace of mind.
Sending love.
Mina
