Free at last

I'm home! I'm home! I love my home. I love my bed. I love Nikita. It all just feels so good.

The ANC this morning was 512 (although due to a system slowdown, we didn't find this out until about 1 pm). Glick would have been happy to send me home with this, but the attending physician wanted to confirm, so he ordered another blood draw, STAT. Stat, however, has some other meaning at HUP because we didn't get THAT information until 4:30. But the good news is that the ANC was over 1,000! Those little neutrophils are just happily generating themselves. The discharge happened very quickly: nurse came in, de-accessed my port, gave me my walking papers, and called for a wheelchair. Done and done.

The only good thing about staying longer was that we got one more afternoon tea in. Dad and I finally figured out the best system: we stalk the kitchen and watch as they prepare the pastries. As soon as they wheel them out, we pounce. Dad grabs a plate and loads it up with cookies and tartlets. Mom and I gracefully pour our tea. We reconvene in the room and feast.

Anyway, I am extremely relieved to be home. I don't have to take any more antibiotics or give myself Neupogen shots. I just have to focus on getting my body back to 'normal' for treatment next week. I think part of that healing process may be the initiation of an afternoon tea every day at 3 pm.

Have your mom make some lemon bars--better than any hospital pastries and perfect for tea time. We're glad you're home.

Glad you are home Rachel.

As I look around my messy house that I can never seem to keep up with, you help me to remember there is no place like home.
